Feb 26th 2012 - Fabric brooches

I never knew that sewing could be this difficult...

We went to another Chocolate Rain DIY Workshop, and this time we both made fabric brooches. We were first told to pick out pieces of fabric we liked from two cardboard boxes full of them. I personally took quite a while because I just couldn't find a suitable colored fabric that could go well with the sky blue fabric I had already chosen. Then we designed how we wanted our fabric brooches to look like. I wanted some sort of a bear, and Michele decided to go with a pig.

Here's my design:

Michele's design: -to be updated-

Once we were done with our designs, we went straight to work. I don't think Michele had a lot of trouble, since she already had some sewing experience with her fabric necklace from the last Chocolate Rain session. It was my first time sewing, so I kept making mistakes and having to ask our mentor for help.

Here are the finished products:

My bear (?) brooch:

I ended up using beads instead of buttons for the eyes, because all the buttons were way too big to use as eyes.

Michele's pig brooch:
My lopsided jelly bean looking pig, I will probably make a bow tie to cover the imperfections :)

We're thinking of making more of these fabric jewelry; I'm going to try making a fabric necklace, and Michele is thinking of another fabric brooch.

I did such a terrible job at the sewing that I think I'll just keep this brooch for myself and not sell it...haha

Feb 24th 2012 - Off to shop for materials

Went all the way to Sham Shui Po to buy the materials needed for accessory making~
It took us quite a while to find this shop (I forgot the name, will update with it as soon as I find out), but as soon as we did, we were so happy that we didn't suffer from claustrophobia on the public bus for nothing XD

We bought A LOT of charms there, along with chains, mobile phone straps, ring plates, etc. We spent close to 1000 HKD in total.

Here are some of the things we bought:
doughnut + cute giraffe + gun charms, ring plates, etc

chains we can use to make necklaces
some metallic charms + more chains
the mobile phone straps

We'll get to making accessories soon~

Dec 10th 2011 - Antique Bracelet + Fabric Necklace

Antique Bracelet

This is the bracelet I made at the Chocolate Rain DIY Workshop back in December last year. I really like how the charms and the beads match with each other, even though I just randomly picked them at first...hahaha. Since I'm not so good in the artistic creativity department, I kind of spent too much time on picking out what charms and beads to choose. The whole process of making the bracelet required a lot of concentration and meticulousness. I'm glad I managed to finish it in the given 2 hours.

Considering that this is my first time making a bracelet, I think this is pretty decent :)

Fabric Necklace (November 20th/December 11th)

This took 2 classes in total (4+ hours) to make, as it was my first time sewing. Though it was difficult at first, I had fun doing it.

What I learned: Fabric necklace (Pick out fabric -> Designs on paper (Paper templates -> Sew pieces together -> Put puff -> Finish Sewing )

Oct 30- First class @ Chocolate Rain (5:00 – 7:00)

Instructor: Janice

Product made:

What I learned: How to make a bracelet with charms  (Pick out charms -> Using tweezers -> T-shaped and 9-shaped hooks ), using a focal color to make the bracelet more “united”

Reflection: The class was fun, but I learned that there were some major difficulties like always bending over, and my neck hurt from that. Also, the small details strained my eyes, and I was extremely tired after the class. However, I learned how the names of some tools and how they functioned. I’m glad I’m starting from easy to hard.
